New chemical entity attracts international venture capital

(10.7.2008) Stevia ApS make public that it has raised capital for the further development of its most potent and promising drug candidate – STX03 (isosteviol) – for treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is a globally and rapidly growing life style related epidemic. Stevia ApS now steps into the development of an effective therapy for the dangerous and debilitating disease. The first investigation in man is expected to commence already this year.

STX03 (isosteviol) is the result of years of dedicated research at the Aarhus University Hospital by an internationally acclaimed research team lead by Professor, Chief Physician and consultant, Dr. Med. Kjeld Hermansen.

UK based investor Bridge BioResearch PLC steps in as  new investor in Stevia ApS.

”We have been in contact with Professor Kjeld Hermansen and the project owners for some time, and when we observed that the first patent was about to be granted in Europe, we made the final decision to invest” says Søren Stenderup, CEO in Bridge BioResearch PLC. ”We now have a new and unique drug candidate – a so called ”new chemical entity” – which is highly suited for our current portfolio and strategy, since there is limited patent-competition from similar candidates, neither in our own portfolio nor in our competitors pipeline.” Søren Stenderup comments.
